Tweaked a bit in Elements

Baader solar film used.

Make a mask that will fit securely over the front of your scope then cut a hole

offset from the centre away from the secondary.

The hole would be fine at say 2 to 3 inchess diameter then cover that in foil.

Obviously if the mask dropped of you could be blinded so make a good job of it.

Also for safety remove or foil cover the finder scope for the same reasons.

I thought I was starting to imagine things.....I saw this yesterday through the Lidl spotter and Baader film...Couldn't find the sunspot on the web...

So I must have imagined it....Thanks Phil.....

Just remember not to go near solar viewing with an open frame Newtonian telescope. The slight chance that you will injure yourself is not avtually that slight as a truss Dob. will focus the sunlight wherever it comes to focus. This can be outside the frame and can hurt you.

Perhaps the best way (if your going to go sun spot spotting often) is to try and get

a cheap small aperture scope, fit a semi permanant filter to it and dedicate it for that use

only.

Those Lidl 70mm scopes that are coming up would be great for the job. 8)
