How do you stop M45 looking like this?

I don't seem to be able to explain, or get rid of easily, the blue halos round the stars.

Is this because the 'scope isn't an APO or am I getting the exposure wrong?

Just my clueless opinion, but I think that looks fantastic!

Also there is nebulosity around the stars, so it could just be over-sensitive to that...

Well, I would have thought you would know far better than me. I can see that you've caught some nebulosity, but those small halos do look a little artificial. Could it be dew? a rogue setting? over-processing? atmospheric interference?

The truth is I don't have a clue!

Truth to be told CC there should be MORE blue nebulosity and halo's

showing from M45.

I'd be curious to know why the edges of the stars/highlights are so 'hard'? Highlight clipping perhaps? Is there anything that can be done to prevent this or is it something that must be accepted when using a webcam?

It's the DSLR, not the webcam, hence the colour.

Ooops, missed that out. Celestron 80mm f/5 refractor, not APO quality, but does the business sometimes.

Was it from a RAW file? If it was then I guess it is a characteristic of Nikon's (Sony's) CCD.

Fluffy blue is nebulosity and harsh blue is chromatic aberration thingy

That's more like what I expected it to look like Rog., but it didn't at all. I don't think I like the DSLR for astro imaging as its too much work to sort out the processing. I'm going to stick to the webcam and colour stuff in later.

Hi CC , well you have got it , Noels actions, first do the small halo,s, i done them a couple of times , the do the large halo,s a couple of times , then run deep sky action just the once , the i go to photoshop to hide the now dark halo,s around the larger stars , use the lasso and lasso each star in turn , go to filter under render ue the bottom render ,click the centre of the star and adjust the render to the size u want , click out and save , do this to each large star , the lasso each star again , and go to enhance , down to adjustments , then to hue and saturation and bring back until white stars , click out and save ,last of all i just turned up the contrast a little , not to much as the =nebulosity data was weak ,

thats it , the better the image data the better this load of actions would be ,

Its Chromatic Aberration CC, my own Celestron 80 had the same issue im afraid, more apparent on bright stars so choose your subjects wisely, you can purchase anti fringing filters that will help.

I'm going to try my camera lens as it says APO on it, thats if the clouds go away. At 400mm it should give the same FOV and stuff, its just a little slower at f/5.6.
