Recommended Posts

Ok Now Guys,Got the scope, bins,

and a tiny baby scope now.thanks C ;o)

What do you think I Should look at first?

and with what?

(That is when the weather changes,

and makes it possible for me to see anything.)

I Am Wanting to see something that I Will remember the rest of my life as the first thing I Saw through a Telescope.

With the WOW Factor.........................

Like on another thread "what was the first thing you saw"

Just seen Planes at the moment

oh and millions of midges on next doors trees.

try jupiter, though you'l have to stay up to aobut 2am untill it rises. deep sky objects (galaxies/ nebula) arent at their best in summer so i would wait for the dark nights for those.

Get stellarium, its free software and it shows what youl see where in real time.

if you want to see a galaxy after all try M31 - Andromeda in the N.east at about 1am ish

have fun

If you can catch the crescent moon, with earthshine, in a light sky, that's a WOW moment, best use a 25mm for that though, as it will mostly fill the feild of view.

And yes, jupiter is another good one for a WOW.

Come the autumn, there'll be DSOs aplenty to keep you out in the cold all night.......

The Moon is just past new and will be full on July 26 so hopefully you'll get some clear sky by then. Don't forget you can see it in daytime too. Tomorrow the Moon rises at about 10a.m. and sets about 11pm. Good luck with your scope!

I got my first scope in May and checked out the moon and Saturn first. Saturn was definatley a big wow moment for me. A few nights later I managed to find M57 which was another great experience.

Good luck :)

Suggest something that you really cannot miss and that will not disappoint.

Saturn would be good, if the atmosphere is OK and the scope has the magnification. Otherwise you could be disappointed.

Equally what do you like? If clusters then try the pleiades (M45), normally hanging around somewhere and a classic sight. Equally as someone posted, his daughter looked at said "It's just a bunch of stars!":D:D:D

If nebula then you will have to work through the Messier list and see which bright one's are visible at this time, and hopefully fairly high. The Orion nebula (M43) is the obvious but it isn't around.:)

Galaxies, Andromeds (M31) but you need a large scope and good skies to determine any detail, but it there.:D

If simple doubles try Albireo, coloured double at the end of Cyngus.:)
