Thanks, pictures don't do it justice really - it's just so solid - makes the standard alu tripod feel really wimpy !!. I was really lucky to pick this up 2nd hand - they don't come up very often and cost around £300 new.

The interesting thing is how a really good tripod can breathe new life into the EQ5 - suddenly it's a much more capable mount. I hope Skywatcher don't even offer the alu tripod at all now - it really sells the EQ5 short.

Nice setup John. The Skywatcher EQ5 is now only sold on steel legs, not as as good as your tripod but a massive improvement over the ally ones.

The steel legs can also be ordered seperately to upgrade an existing EQ5.

Lovely looking setup. I really like the tripod. Isn't an EQ5 a bit more "grunt and go?" My EQ3-2 is a little taxing on my back.
