It's a Caldwell object (number 45). I viewed it with an 8-inch at a dark site in March 2003 when it was low in the sky and there was a thin mist. I found it "large, faint and featureless". Ought to try it with the 12-inch when it's better placed. SkyAtlas Companion says the dark lanes towards the centre can be observed visually.
