canon on laptop

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am thinking of buying a canon 1000d and connecting it to the laptop. What i am wondering is after focusing using the live view on the laptop, can you start the image capture also using the laptop, or do you have to get a remote? cheers,

mason.

The 1000D and later canons can do any length long exposure you like with just USB Control using the supplied software and the Camera set to bulb and using the timer option in EOS Utils...

Earlier Canons were limited to 30s and required an additional remote release cable to do exposures longer than 30s and additional software.

Yep setting camera to Bulb allows for indefinate exposure (until camera battery dies of course) which is timer controllable from the software either by manually sellecting start/stop to contol length or you can set it to do programmed timed exposures which is a great feature where you can for example run 20 exposures @ 120 seconds each.

Also the utility can be used to set AWB and ISO features.
