First view of Orion Nebula

Tonight I have had my first view of the Orion Nebula and OMG it was amazing. Viewing conditions were very poor to say the least, the moon is full, as I'm sure you are all aware and because it is very windy here in north wales, and my scope was blowing around, I thought what the heck and set my Skywatcher 130 up in the house with a view through an open window. Still despite all this I was most impressed, I could see the trapezium and a some nebulosity. Roll on better conditions and a moon less night

Hi Weldone' with your find on M42.When the moon is out of the way you will see much more of the neb when your scope is outside.Mark

I'm not very patient so I had to have a look. Can't wait for this moon to clear off (not permanently though)

Wait till you see it under prime conditions, it'll take your breath away.

M42 is amazing at any time and is probably the most imaged winter target.

Put an OIII filter inline and the nebula becomes an astonishing sight.

M42 is what possible could fix your interest in astronomy for the rest of your life.

I'll never forget my first encounter with M42.. Its ranked along side other first..

Would this filter : Narrowband - Baader Narrowband CCD Emission Line & H-Alpha Filters 2"

be suitable for visual or dSLR work? It's just the constant use of "CCD" in the product description that's putting me off. Also, could you tell me what does the OIII filter accentuate, is it certain types of nebulosity?

Unless you have a big scope and light pollution some of these filters don't help that much as they attenuate the light so much you can't see much.

Hmm... I doubt a 4.x" refractor qualifies as a "big" scope, so maybe I'd be better off not bothering, yeah? I do however suffer from light-pollution though...
