Strange triangular shape

My son and I are complete novices so forgive the question if very obvious. On Saturday night (GMT) we both saw 3 "stars" moving together in a triangular shape, moving roughly NW. Anyone any ideas?

Just using naked eye, or binoculars, or telescope?

Sometimes distant aircraft navigation lights ( generally green, white and red) can be seen.....

Naked eye. definately not a plane. Extremely high, very obviously white lights, very large even from the ground and if it doesn't sound too strange there was a faint outline on the two shorter lengths (imagine a long based triangle with the triangle rotated 90 degrees anti-clock wise)?

how can you tell that it was extremely large and very high? Wouldn't it have looked the same if it was quite large and quite high (or quite small and not very high) etc?

hasn't it been a weekend for weird sightings?

Yes, it could well be the NOSS triplet which sometimes becomes bright enough to be seen with the naked eye. They look quite odd at first. I remember seeing them after several full on nights without sleep and it took me a while to get to grips with what I was watching.

I was fortunate enough to see two NOSS satalites. I thought I was 'seeing things' at first as well lol.
