NickH
Anyone care to guess what this is....as if it's Comet Christensen, it's gone very very very bright....(it's almost 4am...so perhaps I am just going mad/tired)Near to Castor and Pollux and is moving with the sky...(i.e sidereal)ISO800, 30 second EOS300D...£5 tripodSomeone tell me I am going mad, and it's something other than a very very bright naked eye cometFirst imaged at 02:04am, been watching it for almost 2 hours now...it's one funky cloud if it's a cloud

NickH
It's still there...time now 4:20am...I have 18 x 30 second shots of it on the CF card... just very very odd...still can't work out if it's something manmade, a truly weird cloud or a comet...Not been any speccraft venting going on recently has there? NickH
Unless it's some weird laser or light source, which is hitting something at high altitude and just making that glow...who knows?
JCJC
Not really sure to be honest Nick...Pointed the 400D at castor and pollux... Is this the right area??Jordan
jgs001
Was it something you could see Nick, or was it only on the camera ? It looks like some internal reflections... I've had that sort of thing show up when using an old manual (non digital coated lens)...
arad85
Well, you have star trails and the fuzzy blob doesn't look to be smudged, so it would seem to me to be something lighting up the atmosphere...
skye at night
something in the optics wouldn't trail either.....It appears to be static while the stars trail...Strange one..Steve
NickH
It was visible, (i.e not a camera thing) and yes, probably something lighting up the sky, but....I live in the middle of nowhere....so unless it was the army doing stuff, I don't know what it could have beenAnyway... at 5am I went to bed.. content it's not a comet..
