Chesley Bonestell art.

Since being a child I can remember seeing pictures of space art. I was taken to the Moon seeing pictures of it's jagged mountainous surface. Here is a lovely impression of Saturn seen from Titan. From the 1940's. Why do we need space probes to go there? Just live off his imagination. Lol

I've been a follower of space art since I was a teenager, Bonestell, Hardy, Foss, Dean and many others. The example you posted is one of the most evocative I agree.

I also discovered lots of these artists from 1970's album covers and the classic sci-fi novels that I used to read 🙂

Hi John. I also liked the sc fi novel books cover art. Have a look at 'Visions of The Future' on youtube. They are accompanied with Tangerine Dream prog rock music from that era.

I think that there are a number of parts 1 to 5.

I do collect space art books and have some by Foss.

Sci Fi art from that era was Sci Fi art at its very best.

I had a really great Roger Dean book which I leafed through on an almost weekly basis when I was a teenager. I loaned it to my girkfriend who dumped me a week later and kept the book😪

Why not search for a copy of that book Swoop.

Have you tried making your own space art?

About 10 years ago I found some tutorials about how to create planets & starfields in Photoshop, so I had a go.

I've not tried again since, but here's a few of what I came up with:

Anybody remember Science Fiction Monthly, a UK large format ( around A3 size) magazine published from 1974 to 1976. It specialized in many full page pictures of art created by those mentioned above and others. I think I bought every volume including the binders to protect them. Not sure what happened to them. Probably lost during several house moves. 😪

Would you post details of the instructions on producing this art. They are fine pictures.

Some of the old (and not so old) sci fi comic art was brilliant as well.

I remember getting a Dan Dare annual as a young teenager. The colour artwork in some of the stories was fabulous.

I was also a big 2000AD fan so love the Judge Dredd, ABC Warriors, Rogue Trooper etc.

Edit Found the annual. 1974 edition-

Here are a couple I still have in my bookmarks (that work):

Solar Voyager

Create a Planet

If you Google "how to make a planet photoshop tutorial" there are YouTube tutorials on there as well. ;)

I found a couple more images I did. :D

Was it his "Views" book? I bought this mid-70s, had it for many years and not sure how it came to be missing from my collection (can't blame my wife!).
