A few Lunar highlights from 14.02.2022

Gassendi nicely positioned on Monday night, nice to get out under the stars again for a shortish session.  Trying out the Asi174mm on the Moon for the 1st time i think.

1st image Gassendi is with a X1.8 Barlow, the next 2, Herschel, Shiller basin with a X3 Barlow. The X3 Barlow i think was too much for the conditions.

Pleased with the Gassendi image, but Herschel, Schiller Basin don't look great. I think that is partially due to their positions, also the use of the X3 Barlow.

I agree the downside in both seeing and settings with oversampling. It clearly was not needed here. your first image is much tighter. Showing considerable detail on the crater floor of Gassendi . The terminator side looks like it didnt map quite as well. As there is a slight amount of blur. Often its caused by not enough map points in the dark regions

Gassendi itself looks great with nice sharp detail

Thats a cracking Gassendi image Pete. The 1.8x barlow looks to be a good match with your Asi174mm. But as you say the later 2 images probably a bit over powered for the conditions as I myself am finding out to my own detriment. It's still good to get out though and experiment with different setups.

Thats exactly right Martyn. The more you get out and experiment. The more you perfect a technique. Its never wasted if you learn as you go along.
