Upgrade focuser

Hi all.

It's my big 50th In 2 months and was thinking of upgrading my dob.

I'm going to flock the tube clean the primary mirror it's dirty but probably doesn't need doing but most well do it as the ota will be stripped down. 

I wanted to get this for the focuser but the end knob must be glued on any ideas what I could do or get would help I don't want to drill new holes I would like to upgrade to a new focuser where I could fine tune.

Would 1 of the knobs have to come of to fit it

Yes it replaces one of the existing knobs.

I've just noticed the grub screws and the knobs do come off.

Which one is best the auto focuser  or the lacerta micro focuser.

With the auto focuser unless you add some way to disconnect the motor you always have to use the motor. The knob is simple and neat and works very well. I found that with a dual speed knob it’s easier to get focus spot on whereas with the auto focuser you may have to nudge it back and forth a bit.

On a scope mounted on a light weight mount the auto focuser can help stop vibration while focusing but on a bigger scope or dob like the dual speed konb better.

The micro focuser it is will show pictures when I have it and installed.

Think the auto focuser is ideal for maks and SCTs that lack fine focusing and way cheaper than adding a crayford to the back of the scope.

Everyone that’s done the Lacerta upgrade seems very pleased with it. 👍🏻

+1 for the Lacerta. I fitted one on my Skyliner 250PX and it makes fine focus much easier than with the standard Skywatcher original.

Yes i have the lecerta one really good.

Buy i did try the skywatcher auto focusser but found it too slow .and got the lecerta.

The auto focuser is much better when using a HiTec controller connected to a laptop. The control box it comes with is so limited and slow.

I had a Lacerta on my Skywatcher 250 (just sold it). Fabulously smooth action.

Bear in mind that you will waiting until April/May for the Lacerta.
