Hi all. I am currently in cwymdu, was wondering how safe it is in the brecon beacons area to go alone at night?

As safe as anywhere else in the sticks. You should be fine. Just don't start observing in a military training area. 😁

Thats what all the signs are saying. Quite close to brecon. So opted to go to the lake.

If you are referring to Llangorse lake ?  On the south end of the lake is a small car park at the end of the road at St Gastyns Church that's a choice spot.

Thanks,  just been. Got my missus and 5yo  with me, so packed up by 11pm. But still got to see plenty and they had a great time as well.

Are you at the campsite at Cwmdu? That's where Astrocamp hold their Star Parties in Spring and Autumn if you're interested in  having a long weekend away with fellow astronomers. 

They've had to cancel the 2020 and Spring 2021 Astrocamps, but bookings for the October 2021 Star Party opens next week. 

For Astrocamp, they arrange with the camp site that lights are covered or turned off, and they keep a central field empty so that people can set up their scopes and wander around and share views etc.

Yes I am. Yeah I've just seen the astro camp details on their website.  Will have to give it a miss this year as I've used up all my hols. But will definitely sign up for next year's event.
