ASI Air Pro power supply.

I have just acquired an Air Pro. 
 

it seems it does not come with a power supply. 
 

I had been powering my ASI294MC Pro with a cigarette plug to mains female adaptor. 
 

Is it Ok/safe to power the air with this connector, and the power the camera directly from the air with the supplied cables?

Mmm it is ok like in 50/50.   Best is to get rid of the cigarette connector and use a 6 or 8A psu with an attached cable.   Thats the best solution.  When you use a batterypack then your only option would be the cigarette connector.

I don’t use a battery pack anymore. I was powering the camera using an AC power supply that has a female cigarette connector, abd I connect that to the cigarette plug of the camera cable. 
I agree. I want to ditch this option. 
can you pony me towards a 6A or 8A power zippy I can buy?

the ones good reviewed and adviced here one sgl are meanwell psu's. Not too expensive and good. i bought a 6 and 8 A. Just pay attention to the connector. 55x2.1 is the most used i guess, but 55x2.5 is also a common so dont buy the wrong one.

The best choice is probably a linear psu but they are so huge.

I use the Lynx Astro psu to power my asiair pro with no issues.

The only thing I will say is that the psu to DC jack end of the cable is very short. To overcome this I purchased the Baader male to female extension cable (below).

The Lynx Astro you linked to is 5amp?

I was under the impression the AIr Pro needs at least 6-8amps if I will be using all its ports?

Hi Oymd,

According to the manual - a minimum of 2amps for normal operation or 5 amps if using all four 12v ports. See below:

"ASIAIR PRO requires a minimum of 12V@2A for correct opertation. With the 4 12V outlets in use it is recommended 12V@5A is used."

I am not using all 4 ports but as mentioned I've had no issue with running my pro using this. I use the same one to power my HEQ5 Pro also (2 x Lynx Astro PSU's, not one with split power cables  )

I bought one of those before for the something. The connection on the female plug to the brick was very poor and easily disconnected if the brick was moved. I don't recommend.

According to ZWO your camera needs 12v and can draw up to 3A. If your DC to female cigar lighter is a decent amperage you may be able to use a splitter to feed both the camera direct and the Asiair. If splitting you can only supply the maximum that DC unit can handle - so if it was say 10A then if the camera needed 3A it would leave 7A for the Asiair which is more than it could ask for.

Whilst you will hear a lot of people say they can run their mount from the Asiair it is not always the case, with the above camera, a mount and dew heaters you could easily be trying to use more power than the Asiair could supply - usually find the mount does not run properly and can stop tracking.

Agreed re: running the mount off the Asiair. Im sure it is fine but ZWO do not recommend it so that was enough persuasion for me to run a dedicated psu for the mount.

A single source supply can do the same if the amps are enough, dedicated supply yes, dedicated psu not necessarily.

I am curious to know: If anyone has daisy chained two or three TalentCell batteries? What sort of cable would I need to wire them in parallel so as not to increase the voltage supply beyond 12 V, but ensure that enough current flows (5-6 A) to power ASiAir Plus? Thank you!
