M1 with stock dlsr

Ive probably got a clear night on christmas eve so i was wondering would i be wasting my time imaging M1 with a stock d5600 and 130pds...

But there's loadsa other stuff around at this time of year. The Rosette goes well with a 130 for example.

What about M81 & M82? Good broadband target, don't need a modded camera for it. About 40 degrees up N/NE from 8pm onwards.

I wanna try something different... Doesnt the camera need to be modifed to capture the rosette

It doesn't need to be but it'll block out a lot of Ha signal. Have you tried an emission nebula with this camera/scope yet?

No the camera is brand new only object ive took with this camera is the M45

Give the Rosette a go then, see how you get on. Or the California nebula near M45. Both are strong Ha sources so it will give you an idea of how your camera responds to emission nebula.

I photographed the Lagoon and Trifid Nebula last summer using a stock dslr and 420mm refractor. Both are emission nebulae and you can clearly see that the red Ha signal is somewhat lacking; it appears more of a pink color compared to red. It still looks nice without a modded camera. Give them a try next year!

It's just about possible, this was my effort earlier this year with an unmodified Canon D200 at 400mm, 105 mins total integration. I was just happy to get something!

35 x 180 sec at F5.6, ISO1600 in a Bortle 5 to 6 sky, no filter.
