Canon 500mm F4 IS MKI for astrophotography ?

Hi All

Just wondering if anyone is using one of these for astrophotography ?

I have just acquired one and I was thinking about (somehow) chucking it on the mount with a modified 6D.

So, I was wondering....

A - is it worth it ?

and

B - what is the best way to mount the lens safely ?

What mount are you using?

It's about £15 or so for a lens holder with foot, the foot is then attached to the mount.

I think at least 1 member uses this lens for AP with very good results, certainly on par with a top end APO scope but cant remember any details at the moment....Ill be back.

At the moment I'm using a HEQ5 pro but dreaming about getting an EQ6R sometime in the future.

Didn't the lens come with a ring mount? With the weight of that lens I wouldn't attach it to a camera and rely on the camera 1/4" UNC mounting!
