Uranus

Uranus is close to Venus tonight. Just been looking in binoculars and it's around 2 degrees away to the south-east.

Thanks Andrew. Saw Venus earlier but didn't realise Uranus was there. By the time I saw your post, the inevitable clouds had moved in 🤪

Success! Thanks for the heads up Andrew. Just popped the TS72mm out with a 24mm Panoptic in it giving 3.8 degree field of view, and managed to catch them both in a break in the cloud. Mag 6 star HR601 shared the view.

I managed to see these Friday night. Very close together arround 3 or 4 degrees then. Seeing was quite poor though unfortunately. I really enjoy hunting uranus and viewing the clear gleen disc.

Uranus is on my to see list. And of course with it now easy to locate being close to Venus, it had to be the start of my 3 day work week, and time changed making it not get dark till close to 8pm.

I'd forgotten summertime starts earlier in the states. We change clocks end of month. I figure I'll have one new moon in April to view the faint fuzzies between 11pm and c.2am for a week or so, then I'll be cleaning and storing the big dob for the summer and switching mainly to observation binoculars. Hopefully Uranus before then.

I shouldnt complain, 4 days off is great. 

But the days I work, I get up at 2am so bedtime is 7.

3 on 4 off isn't too bad I guess? Bet the 3 on are long days though. Hope you get to see Uranus!

Actually, they're just 3 normal days. I'm semi retired. And enjoying it.

Well it took a nearly half 5.5 degree FOV but I managed to catch Venus and Uranus together in the eyepiece. Always neat to see two planets at once.

I saw Uranus through the 80 mm last night. It does not show detail. But does indicate the value of a telescope. Could not see it without it. Very pleased to have seen it in the same field with Venus using the 8.8 mm eyepiece with 82° field of view.

I got out last evening and struggled to find Uranus. I credit it being in my worst light polluted area of the sky which also has me looking in the direction of my fire department neighbor.

By the time it got dark, Venus was only 45° above the horizon if not a little less.

And for some unknown reason, a microwave tower about five hundred yards away in that direction went from the red aircraft warning lamps to a flashing strobe light that was easily magnitude -600!

I am hoping to get a look at both Venus & Uranus together in the eye piece. Both these planets are a joy to view and that will be an excellent sight.
