Very nice.  I'm envious.  The breaks in the cloud here have been far too small to see much of the Sun even though it has been quite warm and humid.  Clearly Cornwall has done better than Somerset today.

Really great photo.

What kind of sunfilter do you use? Mine makes it all seem bland and white.

Thank you George. It's a dedicated solar scope, Lunt LS60THa which has a very narrowband etalon filter tuned to the hydrogen alpha emission frequency with a bandpass of less than 0.075nm which enables the detail in Ha to be seen. The narrower the bandwidth of the filter, the more detail can be seen.

I assume you are using solarfilm filter on the front of the scope or a Herschel wedge, which enables viewing in white light, so you can see sunspots in detail but the rest of the sun appears white. Using a solar continuum filter as well as solarfilm or a wedge enables some surface detail to be seen. A continuum filter has a bandwidth of about 10nm centred on a wavelength of 540nm which is in the green part of the spectrum.

Because of the narrow bandwidth etalon filters are much more expensive than other filters.

Nice prom Alan, as you say not much else to see, could have done a time lapse of that prom' if the sky had been better.

Dave

Thanks Dave. I thought of doing a time lapse but as some wispy cloud was passing over it every few minutes, I didn't think it would be worth trying. I tried one yesterday but had to give up after 20 minutes.
