Milkyway Timelapse - Rollright Stones

Recommended Posts

I wanted to try out the advanced firmware on the Staradventurer, so I took advantage of last nights clear skies and headed up to the Rollright stones and hopefully some darker skies.

This is a sequence of 177 shots from sunset to about midnight. 30 second each @ISO1600. Nikon D7500, Sigma 10-20  @13mm F4.5 (zoom slipped!). Pointing east towards Cassiopeia and Andromeda. This is the Asto Timelapse mode which tracks the stars between shots and then rewinds to the previous position between shots to keep the landscape static.

Processed in Photoshop to increase contrast and try to dial out some of the orange sky glow.

I saw quite a few Perseids while I was up there, but most of them happened in the 5 seconds between each shot. There's 2 or 3 in this sequence, but it's mainly planes.

Very nice, I see some Perseids in there.  Kind of looks like Groot from Guardians of Galaxy in foreground.

It's called the 'Three Fairies Sculpture' http://www.rollrightstones.co.uk/news/story/faeries-sculpture and they were my only company for most of the night. But yes you're right, it does look like Groot.

Yep using a £3.99 shutter release cable from amazon (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Neewer-Photography-Accessories-2-5mm-N3-Control/dp/B00OHDARXG/ref=sr_1_19?ie=UTF8&qid=1534590899&sr=8-19&keywords=nikon+shutter+release+cable) and printing and cutting out a new mode dial from the updated manual.

It's amazing what this little thing can do.
