A part of me would find a tree with shining leaves very Tolkein, but this would be disastrous for birds and insects and would send half its light straight up.

Fortunately  (or otherwise) I will not have to put up this load of (use your own naughty words )

as at my age (72) and health problems (do not ask) by the time it is commercially available (if ever that happens !!! )

I shall have left this planet , at least, as a living person.

I have a solution for the scientists: instead of making potplants, trees and hedges glow, why not just make the humans glow and leave nature alone?

For heavens sake leave alone. So many poorly researched "fixes" have repercussions years down the line, ddt anyone?. I heard yesterday an article discussing how certain fungi "mine" minerals from the soil around their host plant and transfer the resultant nutrients to the roots. This was a totally unexpected discovery. I would fully expect unintended consequences down the line for any knee jerk meddling.

Too many researchers (And I've been one) don't stop to ask themselves "We can do this, but should we do this?" Often the answer is "no".
