Heads-up for a new supernova found on 3rd Sept = AT2017glx (mag. 14.5)

See http://www.rochesterastronomy.org/supernova.html?#2017glx

Its well placed overhead in Cygnus.

I can also see SN 2017gkk in the list. Its in NGC2748 (located over near Polaris) and shows as mag. 14.7

Happy hunting,

  • 2 weeks later...

Finally had a crack at this SN last night with the 20".

The galaxy was an easy find - small and bright.

I was not able to separate the SN from the galaxy core (as it is close in) but I am certain that it was the SN that was making the galaxy so luminous.

Hope to get another chance next week...

Alan
