Telescope for wildlife photography?

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure if this is the right place. But will a evostar 80ed work well in shooting wildlife. Ie. Animals and birds.

IT has a focal length of 600mm so it should be a good zoom lense on a tripod.

No it won't "work well" but it will work.

Optically it should be fine BUT and its a big but...... No autofocus (anything moving will be tough), no metering (know your exposures?). The fixed aperture will also be a handicap. F7.5 is slow for a telephoto and you will be compensating with shutter speed  (not ideal for wildlife shooting) and high ISO's. Once light starts to drop (when most wildlife is more active). it will be unusable.

Put it this way I want kit that gets out of the way and lets me shoot. IMO a scope would be seriously in the way and I'd be fighting the scope all the time rather than concentrating on shooting.
