There are so many problems with USB3/2 over network type adapters I decided that I am going to build a computer specially for the observatory, with all necessary programs on it.  When the observatory eventually gets built this will be controlled  over the WiFi or cat connection by my main computer. I will be using ACP.

This gets my vote especially since you can knock one together for very little.

I have just done this, already had a second gen 3.4GHZ i3 CPU in an old desktop so used an Asrock H61M R2.0 motherboard which has the dehumidifier bios option, desiccant installed internally.  Used a dedicated COM1 serial port for mount control (built-in serial port header, no more chasing com port numbers!) and next will be a 4 port USB 3.0 card.  Installed WIN10-Pro; Pro selected so I can control it with Windows Remote Desktop via mains-Homeplug-adapters, works great.  Asrock-MB uses Xfast-USB which seems to be very quick and stable, so far the built-in USB 2.0 ports have worked flawlessly.  Now effectively have a fully managed USB hub for very little outlay, Win10-Pro - £18.50, H61m-MB - £45, com-port - £6, USB-3.0 card - £7.
