Head on meteor?

Useful picture.  We saw something similar in SW France.  Instead of a streak it expanded, at about 70 degrees height and west of where we were lounging, from nothing to a bright, white globe, then disappeared.  Six of us thought we were seeing things, but ducked just in case it was heading for us!

Years ago I saw a small-ish head-on meteor through binoculars, it was quite strange because it noticeably corkscrewed towards me - at least two full turns - before expiring. Not something I would have expected to see for something travelling so fast.

Definitely not a Perseid because it's no where near the radiant - that's actually close to the centre of the image. It could be a short meteor (not a Perseid) but is most likely a shot of a short satellite flare.
