Slewing problems with EQ5 Go-To Mount

Hello all

I am having issues with my Sky-Watcher Go-To drive/mount at the moment. I am planning on taking it apart and putting it together again at some point but before I commit to that, I would like to hear anyone's suggestions/thoughts;

Once powered up and aligned 5 out of 10 ten times in an evening when I choose an object to slew too it will begin to move and then suddenly stop completely and then make single beep. I then have to turn it off and on again and begin the alignment process all over... it is very frustrating. I am not sure if this is something to do with the power adapter I am using (original adapter misplaced so using standard 12v DC adapter)  or if it is an issue with the inner workings of the drives etc. any advice?

thanks

Chris

I would suspect it is the psu. Cheap, non regulated PSU's tend to give this type of problem.

Either http://www.firstlightoptics.com/power-accessories/baader-outdoor-telescope-power-supply-12v-5a.html or http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/maplin-97w-dc-fixed-voltage-bench-power-supply-xm21x  are the types that are recommended.

Thanks for this, I will give that a go first. Saves me taking it apart unnecessarily!

I had the same problem with my eq5 pro. After borrowing a power tank from greenwitch it turned out to be power supply I just keep it charged no more problems. Hope it's is as easily solved

Hi Chris, which bit of Kent are you in? I have a spare PSU you can have if you want it, very similar to the one linked to on the firstlight page above.

Hi JonC, that is very kind. I am based in Maidstone. I do actually have a power tank, however when I am viewing from home it is easy for me to connect to the mains socket in my garage without using the tank. It would be handy for me to have a adapter in this case - where are you based?

I am down in Chiddinsgtone Causeway (couple of miles from Tonbridge). I will check the spec on it when I get home and post the details up here.

JonC thank you so much for offering it to me but do not worry too much as I am not sure when I am next going to get a chance to head over to Tonbridge to be quite honest - keep it as a spare and thanks for helping me. I will keep my power tank regularly charged for now as it is designed for the job anyway! I am just glad it is not (or unlikely) something to do with the motor itself in this case.

Thank you all for commenting.
