Hello,

Does anybody use the old 350D or 400D for imaging. It looks like you can pick them up for about £50 and thought it might be worth having a play around for some basic imaging.

Good starting camera for the money IMO. Only issue now is that there is no driver support from Canon after winXp. So newer o/s will not recognise the camera. You can use a card reader as a work around but I would think nailing the focusing would be a pain. Luckily I had an old XP laptop when I used mine.

Can't confirm but I do not think APT supports the Canon 350D. Can someone else confirm.

Yes, APT does indeed support the 350D. The drivers for XP also work on later versions of Windows, I use a 350D on Windows 8.1 with no problems.

I take it you can't get live view when using APT with the Canon 350D or 400D?

Hmm I'll have try that again then because I couldn't get my win 7 laptop to recognise my 350d.

No live view, but all other functions work fine.

Try get some thing with live view. It does make focusing much easier.

350D and APT works fine together on every windows that is installed on 32bits machine

The problem is that there is no 64bits driver for 350D, 400D, 20D (and the other Digic 2 cameras) which makes impossible to control them from the newer laptops that usually use 64bits version of Windows (7, 8, 8.1)

I do agree with Chris. Model with LiveView is better. 1000D should not be much higher than 350D and in the same time will not put limits on the laptop.
