Planetary Imaging with DSLR Video Mode?

Recommended Posts

I took a moment too goof around with BYEos last night, even with pretty bad seeing... here was the result!

This was only ~200 frames, BYE kept disconnecting from my camera if I tried pushing past 300. Has anyone else had this problem? I want to say it's trying to record too much data while collecting it, but I really don't know... I have to goof around with it some more

So, as expected, my old laptop was getting bogged down with reading, recording, and writing both video and jpegs through BYEos. I think turning off the jpeg write fixed it, i did a quick test on the trees that wrote over 2000 frames.

the fun bit though, while goofing around with the settings i noticed a 700 frame movie file from last night! here is the result of the same night, but with better data

I did a bit of a test last night. My Canon 550d vs ZWO ASI120MC planetary camera. Judge for yourselves but I think that the ASI just edges it.

The first image is the ASI - did not have a Barlow but I did a 1.5 drizzle in AS!2 and was a 640x480 ROI.

The Canon had a 3X Televue barlow plus a 5X digital zoom in BYE - 200ISO. Drizzle 1.5 in AS!2.

Scope was the C9.25.

images using the ASI and 2XBarlow here http://stargazerslounge.com/topic/237945-jupiter-on-26th-not-best-seeing/

Wow, amazing work guys. I'm in the process of buying a camera and found your thread very interesting and is helping me decide which route to go. If you have any suggestions from these choices feel free to let me know, could use some extra advice and being a beginner very likely i've overlooked a few things. Have in mind a QHY5-IIc, ZWO ASI120mm or mc , DMK21AU04 mm. Will likely also get a 600d at some point so great knowing what it's capable of. Thanks for that
