Uganda Total Eclipse

Total solar eclipse today in Uganda. I have a friend in Kampala (about 90% eclipse) so hopefully he'll get some decent photos.

Yes just looked at the Sun with the 4" APO frac and Herschel Wedge. There are some incredible sunspots with 1884 and 1885 taking major stage. Coming round the corner is 1890 which looks large.

Your friend is going to have a great photo opportunity with the partial phase plus these sunspots - look forward to seeing some photos.

Its a pity that the partial phase did not reach the UK but some of our members may get a photo from Spain or Portugal.

Some friends of mine are on a cruise off the West African coast to see the eclipse. Hopefully they will get some good skies for it after going all that way.

Lets hope so. I tried to persuade him to travel North into the total eclipse path but it wasn't practical for him. Would love to be there.

I watched the online video on youTube & they had rain clouds & dust storms of all things, let's hope your friend had better luck.

Thats grim, can't imagine anything more frustrating. Think conditions in Kampala were a bit better so waiting for some photos.

I managed to get the whole traverse which was just a little chunk from the side although I haven't had time to process anything yet so maybe tomorrow.

I am around 120 miles off The Bahamas and was all poised to see it but it was too cloudy at sunrise. Typical!!!

I completely forgot the eclipse was visible in Uganda. Two former PhD students live in Kampala, I will ask them if they have seen anything
