Ngc 891

Stunning view of NGC 891 in my 14 inch scope tonight. Much more obvious than in the old 10 inch. It was possible to trace the outline of this ghostly galaxy fairly readily.

Managed to spot NGC 14 an arp galaxy in Pegasus which was a new object for me. A low surface brightness irregular galaxy.

Great to finally get out again with some clear sky.

Sounds you had a successful observing session (just a single stunning object can make it all worth while, can't it). It is a ghostly sight in my 8", one of the harder Caldwells in my book. Would love to see it through a really big scope.

Thanks for your comments. I struggled to see this one with my 10 inch. Finally bagged it overhead with a low power eyepiece. I think that was the issue I was using too much power.

Anyway thought I would try with the 14 inch and there it was..easy...a bit like the brightness of M110 with a six inch scope...lovely...

Saw this one from mid Wales in a 16" scope last year. Very nice target.

We had an 8" SCT set up alongside. It showed it pretty well from there

I saw it last night in my 10 inch from mid Wales.  Nice and bright when I eventually tracked it down, but no dust lane. I would expect an eight inch to show it well under dark skies.

saw 891 for the first time a few nights ago but even in a 16" scope from my light polluted back garden its little more than an elongated blur showing no detail at all
