bottletopburly
On my sw200 p there's a removable cap on the dust cap could I make a solar filter to go over this rather than make a full aperture filter?
nightfisher
Yes you can, but might be better with more aperture, you could make a card frame that would give maybe 4-6 inch of solar aperture

Steve Ward
To be honest you won't get any real benefit from the full 200mm unless you have a patch of exceptional seeing , been there tried that and can report that the atmosphere is the main limiting factor.I'd make a filter that gives you as big an aperture that you can get between the spider vanes , about 75-80mm.You get more filters from a sheet that way too . LukeSkywatcher
You dont need much aperture for solar viewing. The small hole in the cap should be more then enough. Just be sure the filter is stuck on extremely well.

Steve Ward
Enjoy ... Don't forget the sunshade , sun-cream and hat , if it's anything like today you run the risk of getting frazzled .... and if you can drag yourself out of the pit on a Sunday the best viewing is early on before the heat gets a chance to build up and wreck the seeing.
