Dovetail Bars

I recently bought a HEQ5 for my 80mm and 125mm refractors.

It wasn't possible to mount the rings to the dovetail bar supplied with the mount. Luckily I found a bit of spare time at work recently

and machined a couple . 1 3/4" x 5/8" aluminium bar stock is just perfect to produce the dovetail with minimal machining.

I used an orbital sander to prepare the aluminium before anodising, which I was pleased to see came back a nice matt black.

It's a good time of year to try to get these jobs done in advance of the darker evenings.

Lots of other bits and pieces still to do though.

Good job. I should have access to a new lathe and mill by the weekend as my brother just brought them for his workshop. I feel a few projects coming on.....
