White light Sun, 31st March

Spent a pleasant morning with my daughter taking the images for this one, both hiding under a blanket so we could see what was going on. Seeing wasn't the best I've ever had, but wasn't too awful. Took 120 images of 1/1000th @ ISO100 with the 450D and 127 Mak, preprocessed with PIPP and stacked the best 50% with Registax v6.

I'm surprised how little that large spot on the limb has moved when compared with Steve's image from yesterday. I was expecting it to be very clearly in view today but it appears to have gone all coy.

A sunspot near the limb of the Sun is much further away from us than one at the centre, by more than the Earth-Moon distance, so it takes quite a while to move further on to the disc.

That's a very good point :)
