The increase in recorded fireball / meteor / meteorite activity is very simply down to a hell of a lot more people with cameras these days.

The mobile phone and the "Spy Camera Culture" sorry security conscious has put a huge amount of CCD's into the world.

Throw enough and some of it sticks you know :)

Well its pretty obvious that if the Russians had one then the Yanks would have to have one as well. Bet by the time the story hits the press the American one will be bigger, faster, louder and cause more damage than the Russian one did.

"Anything they can do, we can do better" syndrome me thinks.

Ian... :lipsrsealed:

This bit made me smile:

"But from the way it appeared, it looked like a plane preparing to land at the airport."

Tower: Boulder123 clear land runway 07. Wind one two zero, 5 knots.

Boulder123: Roger, clear land 07

Captain Boulder: Flaps 20

Co-Pilot: Flaps 20

Captain Boulder: Gear down

Co-pilot: Gear travelling.... gear down. Three greens.

Captain Boulder: Full flaps

Co-pilot: Flaps travelling.... full flaps.

BOOM!

:p
