Pig
I am thinking of buying a different focuser for my set up and would like some advice I am currently using the factory fitted unit on the Nexstar 6SEI was observing Saturn yesterday morning and even with the bigger wheel diameter on my focuser I couldn't seem to get Saturn just right. Will finer adjustment make much of a difference for the extra expense / ease of fitting ?I would appreciate any recommendations?Thank youShaun
Kai
Try using a peg attached to the focussing knob , sounds barmy but the extra length on the peg does give you a finer degree of control.I used to use it on my 8 inch SCT with success
Mr Fiery Jack
If Saturn was down low, and I take it that it was, then seeing may have played a large part in being able to get a sharp view. I doubt your focuser is to blame.

alan potts
30 degrees, low, not in my books. To me though I agree is sounds like seeing.I didn't know that a 6 inch could take a different focuser, is it with the 2 inch SC fittings. AS for the peg, interesting. I found that by making the focuser's knob that you turn bigger helped a good deal, or fit a Moonlite, that works.Alan
faulksy
i fitted a baader steel track to sct and i think its the best thing i ever bought, great bit of kit, never use the mirror focuser anymore so no flop either
E621Keith
Sounds like you were limited by seeing. A C6's mirror shift focuser should be adequate for visual.

Pig
Wow the peg works really well - thank you - nice cheap alternative
Stargazer_00
Obviously the longer the peg, or attachment, the finer the controls solong as whatever you use is not too heavy so that gravity has a go at focusing too. a plastic peg is perfect, a long plastic peg is even better! Pig
I will get a longer peg - the hurricane pegs should do the trick
kirkster501
Best tip is a Plastic Peanut butter jar lid. Make a hole in the middle of the lid snug with your focuser and push onto the fouser. Brilliant. Idea shamelessly stolen from Rod Mollise.
