Telrad Dew Shield

Having just got a telrad I was wondering if they tend to suffer from dew build up? So is this an accessory that is worth having?

Yes they can suffer from dew and I find a dew shield to be very useful although it does't work well in heavy dew.

I use the official one. I got the one with the mirror but to be honest it was money wasted and I still prefer to look through the reflector. It does seem to do a good job of stopping dew, just leave it on when not using the telrad.

i got my telrad 2nd hand with a built on dew shield, never taken it off, never got dew

Thats quite amusing actually as someone at some stage must have made that same dew shield for my telrad as mine still has the Velcro spots on the body to take the shield! Thanks for the link, guess what I'll be making this weekend!?

Mines been brilliant and I have had no problems with dew on the Telrad. I did have to adjust the size slightly as the printout of the template wasn't quite big enough. Something to do with the printer not the original design. I would suggest you make one of paper and checking for size before you cut the foam.

I made one but eventually bought the actual dew shield. It's very good, however, It relies heavily on human intervention, I.e. replacing it into position after finding an object!!!!!

Not quite sure I understand that. I've never had to move or adjust mine when observing.

yeah I've seen that, looks a different design I think, but doesn't really matter if its effective I guess.

My telrad was an absolute dew magnet with or without the dew shield, so its now gathering dust in a draw whilst a Rigel quickfinder has pride of place on my scope, seems to not dew anywhere near as quickly, if at all.
