Which Monopod?

Which one (they do several)?

Either the 234 (just under £20) or the 234RC ( just under £33) if you want a quick release version.

For tripods, I usually go for a quick release head - but since you have to hang on to a monopod or it falls over :) I usually go for the fixed version of the tilt head...

Hi

The WT1003 monopod from 7dayshop sure look like a nice deal, but is it high enough for tall people? 170cm seems a bit short for me being 189 cm tall (and add 1-2 cm from the boots).

Even with my L mount, I reckon around 185 cm height is needed. A tilt head as the Manfrotto 234 adds roughly 6 cm. Am I missing something?

OK, thanks. Assuming that's a tension control knob on it, can you just leave it at one setting, or does the difference in turning moment between looking at something near the horizon and looking at something near the zenith mean it has to be re-tensioned?

I use a QR; I leave the L-bracket attached to a QR plate, and hte assembly stores nicely in the case between the binocular "tubes".
Am I missing something?
Apart from the 21cm that the Camrock trigger-grip ball-head adds? Nah, can't think of anything...

(Mind you, I do observe seated....)

Can you guys share the links of the "7 day shop" bits you are referring to please? The monopod, the head and the adapter?

Another question about monopods....? If you want to "put it down" for a few minutes and look through your star atlas, make a cup of tea, get your brandy flask out :) etc, how do you do that? Put it into a hat stand or something ?

HNY, steve

I usually observe seated, so I just lean it against my leg. If I want to get up, I rest the binocular on the seat.

One more thing, I assumed you had the L bracket but just in case you don't....

I prefer this one: http://www.strathspey.co.uk/shop/full.php?q=1118418736 -- fits more binoculars.

Good job you chimed in Steve, I'm still using a cheapo plastic job & was going to buy the one I linked to above. I have just bought the Strathspey one as per your recommendation. It actually works out £6 cheaper to buy it on fleabay...

Just bumping a long dead thread that I've found useful.  Same sellers still on ebay, the prices are £29.90 from Mike-s-photo http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Camrock-Tripod-Joystick-Grip-Action-Ball-Head-360-New-H110-high-quality-gear-/390765038838?pt=UK_Tripods_Heads_Stablisers&hash=item5afb694cf6, £149.99 from lotinabox http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Heavy-Duty-TR-154-Professional-Tripod-with-TRH-14-Head-/190619608166?pt=UK_Tripods_Monopods&hash=item2c61d06466... hmm decisions decisions, toughie.

p.s. if you're a bit 'northern' like me, you can get the 7dayshop monopod about £1 cheaper by going to their own website http://www.7dayshop.com/7dayshop-monopod-high-quality-aluminium-4-section-h170cm-photo-and-camcorder-use-with-shoulder-case?backUrl=L2NhdGFsb2dzZWFyY2gvcmVzdWx0Lz9xPW1vbm9wb2Q=&backUrl=L2NhdGFsb2dzZWFyY2gvcmVzdWx0Lz9xPW1vbm9wb2Q=

they also sold the binocular mount adaptor  (same as the Strathspey one) for a mere £4.99 but are currently out of stock.  I recently bought one on ebay for twice that (also now longer listed), then received an identical one with my WO 10x50's.
