Uranus - First attempt 29.11.12

Hi all,

I had a go at Uranus tonight for the first time and I am very surprised by the result!

2X Barlow with SCP900 webcam, I had to push gain and exposure to max (expo to -4) to get a grainy/noisy grey something on the screen surrounded by even grainier huge pixels. Went anyway to process it through AS!2 and then put it in Registax where I did not use the wavelets (well, I tried but that just worsened everything) so only used the autobalance on RGB Balance and downed (a lot!) the lightness on the final tab. And voila!

Is it cheating? I mean, it really did not look like that AT ALL on the avi! Just a 'something' less dark. AS!2 & Registax did all the job really!!

I'm pleased!! I hope you like it!!

Thank you! I'd say yes, go for it on the webcam! I don't own a DSL, can't say much about it... But I've read a lot on the site/forums that CCD webcams are probably the best for planetary, so! It will be faint, but after processing it will be round and blue

Wonderful image Anne, nice and sharp! And don't worry about having to crank up the noise to get Uranus. It's how most of us have to do it when it come to non shutter imaging. My Uranus pic was swimming in a sea of red when I imaged mine.
