New Skywatcher AZ/EQ6

Could someone please point out the benefits of having a mount that can operate in EQ and AZ modes? You've still got all the weight of an EQ and if you have taken the time to set it up etc, why use the AZ mode?

I think the idea is you can switch between single scope EQ mode for imaging, and dual scope AZ for observing/star party mode. I always star-hop and observe in EQ mode anyway, so the benefit would be largely lost on me.

One of the advantages of the mount is that in az mode it can carry two telescopes with a combined weight of 25kg.

I have one of the new Meade LX80 mounts that is similar to the Az/EQ6. I like it because of the dual scope option and I find AltAz mode easier to use for observing. The polar mode, in theory, would be good for AP.

Worried about the bad press it received and interested in the views of someone who actually has one.

With az the ep stays in same position - great for big newt use!

Thanks for the responses folks. It looks a nice mount, better engineered than the EQ6, can't wait to see some reviews.
