Sunspots and Big Prominences, SE Solar Limb (28 July 2012)

Good weather in the UK today

A bright sunny morning with very few clouds and a nice blue sky.

There is a lot of activity towards the south-east solar limb.... Four large single spots, three big prominences and a filament!

Here is an image that I captured at 08:51UT with my 60mm SolarMax Filter / 30mm Blocking Filter, 80mm Vixen F11.4 and DMK31AU03.AS camera.

Although cloud is now on the increase in central England (50% at 12:46UT) there is still plenty of opportunity for more imaging.

If the air remains stable I'll try a 2.5x PowerMate on the proms.

Regards,

Dave

Great photo Dave,

I re-processed mine from yesterday and it is looking a lot better, but didn't have time to finish it yesterday and I am out today, so will try and post later. The white background really works well.

Hi,

I re-processed my image with x2 drizzle, which brought out a bit more surface detail. During the combining it lost a bit of the prom detail, but overall about as good as I can get at the moment. post-10602-0-95070400-1343659469_thumb.j

Hi Dave,

I used IC capture and Registax 5. I haven't had much luck with Reg 6 on solar images, but perhaps it would like the output of my DMK better? I did try AS2!, but couldn't really get used to it. I haven't tried AVIStack yet and now don't have enough time before going on hols. I will give it a beeter go when I am back.

Hi,

I captured one video of the surface and stacked it using Reg 6, it seemed to work okay and I think it has done a better job. I noticed that when my videos were of good quality (greater than 95% selected) Reg 6 seems to work but if they are bit lower quality it seems to stuggle and doesn't stack correctly.

Anyway here the pic in both monochrome and with colour added. Looks like it is slighty over exposed in the top right hand corner, that I have over done it with the wavelets? I am still trying to find my way with this.

Hi,

I reprocessed the surface detail from the combined picture in Reg6 and Reg5. Reg6 seems to make a better job of the stacking, but I have over-done it on the Wavelets. Reg6 and Reg5 images attached.

Great images. H-alpha pictures are always so beautiful. Rather surprised about the difference between registax versions. It mostly seems to be contrast though there seems to be some more details in the reg6 image.
