Anyone keeping an eye on the upcoming geomagnetic storm?

Recommended Posts

The recent X-flare unleashed by AR1520 is probably the most significant I've seen this year so far, because of it's intensity and trajectory towards Earth. As I'm typing this, the storm should just now be geting underway. Hopefuly some of you will see the auroras tonight.

Current solar wind data, denisty and speed seem to be showing some initial signs of disturbance, possibly:

Keep an eye on these sites which give an idea of the current auroral oval. At the moment it's too early to tell if it's going to be big or not but I think some will have a good chance.

It looks as if it's starting to get a bit more interesting.

I also watch this link and when the black line starts to seperate from the blue line then it means things are heating up.

Up to KP 6 now, it looks as if Canada and the northern US should have some activity and reports from NZ and Tasmania say it's very bright.

Looks like those in the North of England might be in with a good chace!

Northerly locations have the best likelihood of getting an aurora but also have the brightest skies at the moment. Best chance of seeing an aurora currently would be at a far southerly latitude.
