Ok its my birthday today :p and over the last few weeks i have been undecided on either a 10" dob or 8" dob.

Well its none of them :( hence posting in here. My Mrs has got me a 2nd hand 200p 1000mm f/5 OTA and am very happy with it. Quite a massive difference to the heritage 130p flextube we used to have ill tell ya :(

Right so now the fun starts, yepp you got it, making a dob base for it to go on. Been looking at a few threads on here for some ideas, there are some crackers btw, but there is a couple that stand out and am looking for something like that. Yes it helps if i can find the link to show you i know but that will have to come later lol.

I like the way the dobs work atm on just 2 pins (technical isnt my middle name lol) and was trying to come up with a way to do something like that maybe? You guys know alot more so your input would be very much appreciated, and bearing in mindthis is my first telescope project :(

I will try get some pics up along my perilous journey lol, but wont be today as i think i may try a few pints of Scrumpy down the local lol :)

But i will be asking loads of questions, and yes some will be silly no doubt, so go easy on me :(

Happy birthday:hello2:

Great present.

Always great to read of others taking on some ATM projects.

Looking forward to reading and seeing (pics are always good) your project come to life.

Nothing beats the satisfaction of using a scope you built yourself.

Any help you need just ask.:hello2:

I don't think the threads are compatible. Close but no cigar.

That answers that then, basically im looking for 2 bolts that will take the weight of the OTA and to get 2 of them knobs to screw onto the end to put tension on. I have no idea about sizes unless its infront of me lol

Dont know if this will work but i cant see why not, so your thoughts are appreciated.

Have tried this afternoon with one of the tube rings on with just small pins in to feel the weight. Im thinking that with some half decent bolts in them rings will be easier to do and save making things. My worry was if the tube creased etc, but feeling at it i dont think it will as its pretty stable. Im only after simple things as that always works best, so no Gucci or Armarni written on this base to be lol.

As long as its light and i can point at the sky, then im happy.

What do you guys think?

is the bolt captive? If not remove it and take it to your local fixings specialist he will measure the threads for you and make sure you get the right one.

If not just take the tube ring along with you.

Dont think so, it just unscrews out. Dont want to trust that diameter so will drill out to 3/8 to make sure and put a stronger bolt in. As soon as i can get that sorted i can then think about base sizes.
