Sticking together images....

Whats the best free software to stick together CR2 or JPG images so i can create a super large star field map.

Need to be able to stich above and below as well as left to right ?

sorry to jump on this thread, having finally managed to get ICE on my laptop, how do i get my image`s into the stitch area

Click on the File menu and then select New Panorama.....

Does ice do above and below stitching as well as side by side panoranic

yep... If the shots are taken with a very wideangle lens it may fail due to the distrortion of the starfield at the edges... If it's from a scope you should be OK..

As you start to build up a wider reigion of the sky you will notice the image starts to curl up as you have effectively been imaging the inside of a sphere...

I gave up on Hi-res mosaics with a scope and now shoot them at much shorter FL's

I tried it witha view of a boating pond and i have to save very good results, perfect stitching

I've not used it for astro pics before, but I've used Hugin succesfully in the past.
