Might be worth taking a look at the Astrotrak it's a piece of equipment designed for DSLR cameras and which mounts onto a decent photography tripod- the kind with changeable heads its very portable and so can be taken on a holiday trip and it accurately tracks the sky; you do need a polar scope to align the Astrotrak (a special finder used on EQ mounts for aligning to the zenith (Polaris). Astrotrak will track the sky better than the motors on small eq mounts that don't cope we'll with the weight of DSLR cameras piggy back mounted on the top of scopes. Of course there are ways to connect a DSLR directly to a decent quality motorised mount too (often with a dovetail plate adapter) you'll probably find that a Canon 28mm prime lens is a good wide field lens for the job. Sensitivity can also be improved with a change of the camera chip filter see the photography section in the forum.
