Thanks for the heads up, i have looked at this site a good few times, it was this site that has me looking for a Tasco 10 te, missed a few on the "american forum"

I found the manual for the 9TE covered my 12TE. I think it covers the 10TE as well. Not exactly comprehensive instructions though !

That is really something. Looking the prices in the 1930s and scaling that up to the equivalent price today ...

I don't think I can justify complaining about the cost of astro-gear today any more.

Thanks John, that really takes me back. After all these years I still want a Cave newt-cass on one of the their shiny mounts. It is still the image of a perfect telescope for me.

heh, heh. Not just the 1930's. I dug out a copy of Astronomy from 1993 (the one with the Buyers' Guide). it lists the LX200 at $2300. Roughly the same exchange rate, but prices/wages were about 40% of today's - so reckon on about £4,400 equivalent today , including VAT.

How about an ST-6 CCD with it's "massive" (or should that be "whopping"?) 375 x 242 pixel CCD, for $3k?
