hayju01
Why is an SCT adapter needed and what is one?First Light Optics - William Optics 2" Dielectric Diagonal with SCT AdaptorAnd is one needed with this one?First Light Optics - William Optics 2" Quartz Dielectric Diagonal
johninderby
The SCT adaptor replaces the push fit (refractor type) nosepiece on the diagonal to screw it directly onto the back of an SCT scope. Otherwise with an SCT you can fit a 2" visual back adaptor that screws onto the SCT fitting and allows the use of the standard push fit.John

Just need to decide if the Quartz is worth the extra £114????
johninderby
The WO dielectric diagonal is a very good one and you probably wouldn't notice any difference compared with the quartz. I think the WO quartz is a bit overpriced. For just a few quid more you can get a Televue Everbright diagonal.John
hayju01
Thanks John much appreciated. I think this currently has the edge over the steeldrive on my 'Next Purchase List'..... :-)
John
FWIW I have a Revelation quartz dielectric diagonal which costs around £90 I think and it's as good as the William Optics one IMHO. It's also as good as the much more expensive Tele Vue Everbright that I have as well.

Mr Spock
+1 for the Revelation. I have one and it's excellent. No need to pay mega amounts just for a name
