Nipon Telescopes?

Hi, I'm new to this forum and have recently decided to take my interest in astronomy to the next level and buy my first telescope. I've been looking at Sky-Watchers mainly, but then came across this website:

NIPON Telescopes

Has anyone heard of Nipon telescopes before, and are they any good? I can't seem to find any reviews on them so am assuming they are either relatively new, or really poor quality. I'd like to think the former, but because of their very low price I think the latter is the more likely answer!

Not heard of them but the stuff on the website gives me little hope. The scopes look plasticy, cheaply built, and over-priced. I wouldn't touch them.

One to avoid. I've seen some of their spotting scopes at a display in Bristol and was not impressed - nothing to give any confidence that their astro scopes would be any good at all.

I'd probably try and save for a sky-watcher to be honest.

Cheap and nasty and most commonly found lurking on eBay. They make Seben look good in comparison.

Best to stick with proper name brands such as SkyWatcher, Celestron, Meade etc.

Looking at the Nippon eyepiece page, there seem to be some well known ones there,

mentioned in a hot topic or 2 here

fraid i got stung last week, got a 0.965 4mm eyepiece £10..get a bigger view of things, just wont focus on any of them!

Ive never seen so many scopes that actually look like they come from a toy store. Some nice EP's on the site at good prices though.

I'll hold off on them though.
