another earth?

I am sat in a hotel room, scopless, with clear skies all around me. To kill the time I am watching a film called "another earth". The story is a bit more involved than the normal sci-fi fair but part of the story line lies around another planet coming into earth's orbit that is basically another earth.

Now it may be too many days out on the road or the beers I had down in the bar, but....

......I cannot help but think how awesome it would actually be to use our telescopes to look at earth itself. Imagine the detail, the man made features to study. Anybody else agree?

That aside - the film does not seem that bad so far either.

If you were close enough and had a powerful enough scope you might see another you looking up and waving back now that would be cool :-)

I did (and still do) wonder how far telescopes of various sizes would be able to detect our night-side lights from.

I have also wondered the same thing, earth would be a truly stunning planet to look at through a telescope!!.

Its kinda sad that we live here and trash it..

They are doing. Called the James Webb Space Telescope or something

i mean a mirror you can look at yourself in imagin a 500 mile by 500 mile mirror orbiting in space lol

A whole new tracking mount would have to be developed, it could get pricey
