moon filters...

as any one ever used one for viewing planets ?

i read on a american website there good for viewing planets with is this true or just a load S**t ?

I have heard of this before, never done it myself, but I would imagine it would work well on a bright planet like Jupiter.

Observed the moon in a 16" and still have sight in that eye.... It was bright, but oh such good contrast. I like the keep the image bright so detail seems to jump out more.... If you use a filtermyou might as well use a smaller scope...

no reason not to try it but bear in mind that you are putting a further layer of (possibly poor quality) glass between the image and your eye.

I am also a no moon filter kind of a guy even though I also use a 16" scope. that said, I do sometimes stop down the aperture with a mask when the seeing is not so good.

Hi moonshane, I find many people either love them or loathe them, I know exactly what you mean as I use both options when I can't be bothered to insert the moon filter.

i have used those cheap green ones on a 4", helps with glare, but might as well switch eyes for a while

I tried mine out on Jupiter and it helped with seeing the bands, only reduces glare for moon
