Observed the moon in a 16" and still have sight in that eye.... It was bright, but oh such good contrast. I like the keep the image bright so detail seems to jump out more.... If you use a filtermyou might as well use a smaller scope...

no reason not to try it but bear in mind that you are putting a further layer of (possibly poor quality) glass between the image and your eye.

I am also a no moon filter kind of a guy even though I also use a 16" scope. that said, I do sometimes stop down the aperture with a mask when the seeing is not so good.
