Possibly ref to the image near centre which appears slightly out of focus?

What I was trying to do is lose the white around the center

The white area is flaring in the active region. It's very difficult to capture this and the rest of the chromosphere at correct exposure because the flaring is so much brighter. Nice couple of pics.

HDR imaging might help. I guess this is what Kev is refering to as well. This is something that I'd like to experiment with at some stage, as I think there is some potential with this technique.

A beautiful couple of images of a flaring active region, a lucky catch!

As Mark says, you will always get white saturated pixels during a flare event, that's what makes the picture spectacular. The same happens to the SDO camera during a flare.
