good afternoon i also have the same camera and lens and have only been doing star trails and constalations not mounted on telescope it will be intresting to see what other members have to say .

Hello, Ray,

it will be a great choice to capture large areas on the night sky.

It's best if you could mount the camera/lens onto a tracking mount. I use a small motorised EQ3-2 for this.

Find a good dark site.

Get a fair polar alignment and aim it towards the Milky Way.

Capture a series of 2 minute exposures at 400 ISO and stack them.

I also have a 350D and it WILL also need some dark frames to compensate for sensor noise.

I don't believe Canon do a 28mm.f2.8 in the L range, but as a prime focus lens, it will be well corrected.

With long exporure imaging, I found my EOS350 had a hot area on the bottom right hand part of the CCD The higher the ISA setting, the worse it got. If you have the same, then the dark frame compensation will work pretty well.

Best quality in RAW gives a lot more flexibility later, too.
